WisTech Virtual Training #2 A Guided Tour of Technology for People Who are Blind or Have Low Vision
During this guided tour of technology for people who are blind or who have low vision, we will explore a diverse range of technologies and service recommendations. This workshop is designed for various key stakeholders, including professionals who work in independent living centers, vocational rehabilitation staff, long-term care providers, as well as those who work in other settings with children, transition students, or adults who have vision loss. We will discuss different categories of assistive technology and then dive deeper into specific examples of tools, such as low vision technologies, screen magnification software, screen reading technologies, optical character recognition solutions, accessible mobile technologies, and more. Next, we will discuss best practices and strategies for assistive technology services for people who are blind or who have low vision.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe at least five different categories of assistive technology for people who are blind or who have low vision.
2. Identify at least five specific technologies used by people who are blind or who have low vision to access computers and mobile devices in a variety of settings.
3. Recommend at least three strategies for providing assistive technology services for people who are blind or who have low vision.

Speaker Bio:
Rachael Sessler Trinkowsky, Ph.D., CRC, CATIS is the Technology Training and Vocational Manager for the Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches. She is the Program Coordinator for the Assistive Technology for People with Visual Impairments program at the University of Massachusetts Boston and has developed programs through UMass Boston to prepare professionals for the CATIS credential through ACVREP. Additionally, she is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) in the Assistive Technology Certificate Program at UIC. She has been a Co-Strand Advisor for ATIA since 2019 for the Vision & Hearing Strand.
